The Marco de Canaveses Stone Museum was opened on the September 6th, 2009, and celebrates the granite and the labour of the people who, from centuries ago, make the extraction, processing and marketing of the stone as a guarantee of their economic sustainability and one of the main motors of development to the county of Marco de Canaveses, mainly the lower county.
Visitors have at their disposal three distinct groups developed in a lively dialogue: "The Man and the Stone", "The Stone in the Arts" and "The Stone and Local Development".
The Museum is also integrated in the "Roteiro das Minas e Pontos de Interesse Mineiro e Geológico de Portugal” (Map of Mines and Mining Geological Points of Interest in Portugal”. It is a collaboration, promotion and development project that include Museums, Foundations, Science Centers, Geoparks and Universities in logic "Open Museum".
