The Valley of Vilariça corresponds to a tectonic fault, filled by alluvium derived by floods - locally called "rebofas" - caused by the reflux of the waters of the Sabor River and the stream of Vilariça in times of floods in Douro. Land fertilized by these floods becomes “ubérrimos”.
The Valley became famous throughout the country and across borders huge productions hemp linen (from the Middle Ages), cereals and vegetables, particularly melons, beans and grain. They are also known experiments with tobacco production. From the XX century, the cultivation of the vine has become dominant, leaving, in actuality few spaces for the production of other crops. Recently, we have seen the resurgence of horticultural production in the valley, especially the pumpkin, melon, sprouts, beans, tomatoes, strawberries.
It is important to note that this valley is a very important line for migratory birds, due to existing water courses there - Stream of Vilariça and Stream of Grande - and their irrigation reservoirs. Enjoy this beautiful territory that stretches between neighbouring municipalities of Vila Flor, Alfândega da Fé and Mogadouro.
