The Marching Band of Golães

Fafe
Description
Fafe is proud to have two of the most famous marching bands in the country, the bands of Golães and Revelhe. These marching bands bring the great symphonies of famous composers of all times to the popular classes.
The marching band of Golães is the oldest in the region, having been established in 1770. In 1895, because it played a social role in the community, it was chosen as the marching band of the Fafe volunteer fire service, but it kept its name and administrative autonomy. In 1944, following a period of crisis and especially because the Fafe fire-fighters lacked an internal regulation to determine the mutual duties of musicians and fire-fighters, the group ceased to work with the volunteer fire service. Officially, its name is “Sociedade Artística Musical Fafense” – art and music society of Fafe.
In 1995, the marching band was awarded the Gold Merit medal of the Council of Fafe for its successful activity.
