Mondim de Basto
Description
“Silha”, beehives, apiary or walls (designation varies depending on the region) are granite or shale structures according to the local substrate, oval or circular shape, completely closed or a strait range to access the interior, equipped with high dry stone walls, with two faces, topped by slabs protruding outwards, to protect the beehives from predators of bees, especially bears and badgers. The geographical distribution of this heritage in the municipality of Mondim is confined to the schist origin area of the mountain, next to the “Alvão” and “Marão”, dispersing through several places of “Mondim”, “Ermelo”, “Pardelhas” and “Campanhó”.
