SABOR RIVER
Torre de Moncorvo welcomes the Sabor River in its terminal portion, constituting worth its source of wealth for the people of the Souto da Velha, Felgar, Larinho, Torre de Moncorvo, Cabeça Boa, Horta da Vilariça, Cardanha and Adeganha for long generations.

The richness and biological diversity is exceptional. The flora is characterized by the presence of humanized crops such as olive and almond trees, numerous shrubs that stands the holm oak (Quercus rotundifolia), cistus, "giesta", heather, juniper, "cornalheira", but also features various tree species in this region as the “cerquinho”, oak, alder, poplar, the willow, the "freixos" and the "lodão".

With regard to fauna we should mention the different species of birds, the most important being the rupicolous - Griffon Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Golden Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Crow, Crow-billed and red-Eagle Owl - being likewise very relevant to Catch blue, black Wheatear, Blackbird rocks, the black stork, the heron, among various species of ducks and loons. Among the mammals we have the wolf, the fox, the badger, the Weasel, the Buck, the Boar, the Otter, Rabbit, Hare, and several species of bats. It should be also mention the fish - barbel, boga, escalo, eel, carp, “achigã”, “lúcio”, “perca”, the “Pimpões”, among others that have sadly disappeared due to large dams in the Douro (as lamprey and “solho-rei” or “esturjão”) - and reptiles - snakes water´s, snake ratter, horseshoe snake, viper, tortoises - and amphibians - frogs, toads and salamanders.

With the construction of the hydroelectric project of Baixo Sabor, the habitat may undergo some changes, but conditions will arise to keep the majority of existing species, and the rich landscape will be equally of great beauty, by the great lakes formed.

DOURO RIVER

The borough of Torre de Moncorvo is covered with a great extent by the Douro River valley. The territory included the Douro Region and area classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, has a living cultural landscape, combined the works of man and nature. Thus, if the dominant culture in the valley is the vineyard that produces the precious nectar - wines of Porto and the Douro - and dazzles the senses, we must not forget the large plantations of olive and almond trees, which the end of winter captivate tourists with the beauty of its flower. There still refer to a wide variety of botanical species - Carrasco (Quercus coccifera) holm oak (Quercus rotundifolia), cistus, "giesta", heather, juniper, the “cerquinho” oak, “cornalheira”, the “lodão” or freixo. With regard to fauna we should mention the different species of birds, the most important being is the rupicolous - Griffon Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Golden Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Crow, Crow-billed drongo, and red-Eagle Owl - being likewise very relevant to Catch blue, black Wheatear, Blackbird rocks, the black stork, the heron, among various species of ducks and "mergulhões". Among the mammals we have the wolf, the fox, the badger, the Weasel, the Buck, the Boar, the rabbit, the hare, the otter and several species of bats. All of these framework are plenty of reasons to visit the parishes of Lousa, Cabeça Boa, Torre de Moncorvo Açoreira, Urros, Peredo dos Castelhanos.
