The Garden Dona Maria II is situated in the heart of the city, in the former Market Place. The inauguration of the statue of Queen Dona Maria II, in 1968, marks the completion of the first phase of this garden.
In 1972, the building of Fundação Cupertino de Miranda positioned in the top North, giving rise to a public square, surrounding the main shopping streets of the city and a stage that hold the most important events and activities of cultural, leisure and recreation.
This set, designed by the architects John Abreu Castelo Branco and Luis Plaza, emphasis to tiles lining of the tower, by authorship of Charters de Almeida. To the South, appears the garden, which invites to rest and leisure, with equipment motivating inter-generational meetings.
