Ponte do Manica (Manica Bridge)

Oliveira de Azeméis
Description

The medieval bridge, possibly built in the XIII or XIV century, as it is shown in  its Romanesque architecture and other finds. It served not only as a daily people way, but also, as  an important way to Santiago de Compostela during   the Middle Ages pilgrimages.
Despite of its history, due to the closing of  the  medieval Hospital of the knights Hospitaller  that was in Madaíl, this route (including the bridge) lost the importance that  it had  in the early days of its existence. After   closing  the Hospital,  the pilgrims left  passing through this road.
