ALIJÓ CENTENNIAL PLANE

Alijó
Description
Considered as one of the main ex-libris of Alijó, this Plane, nicknamed by the people of this land as the “big tree”, is actually a large and leafy tree that is located next to the parish church of Alijó.

It was planted on November 25, 1856 by Roberto Augusto Pinto de Magalhães, 3rd Viscount of Ribeira de Alijó at the time president of the Chamber. That same day, Torcato Luís de Magalhães was born, later also president of the Municipality. For this reason, reflecting the special affection he had for the plane tree that he had grown up with, he used to call it “his twin brother”.
