The Manor Houses of Vade
The valley of Vade, a tributary of the river Lima, exhibits a remarkable set of stately houses. Some go back to the Middle Ages, when the “casas-torre” (tower-houses),used to be built, of which the Tower of D. Elvira, in the place of Cuíde de Vila Verde, or the Torre de Quintela, in the parish of Nogueira are examples. Later, in the XVII and XVIII centuries, associated with agriculture in the valley, farms and houses flourished, such as Paço de Magalhães, Solar da Agrela, Casa da Pousada. Casa das Ínsuas, among many others.
