The Resende's Municipal Museum was inaugurated in 2006 after refurbishment and expansion of the old jail of Resende built in the 30s of the 20th century.
The Museum, an identity space of the territory and its population, assumes as its mission the study, preservation and dissemination of the local heritage.
This regional identity space has a strong educational potential, attractive for the scientific community, combining knowledge and leisure. It displays permanent collections dedicated to ethnography and archaeology, whose artefacts are of local origin, and a room entirely dedicated to temporary exhibitions.
Other rooms to visit are those dedicated to the river Douro and to the engineer Edgar Cardoso, a space that perpetuates the memory of this genius known as the “master of bridges”, a man who had strong emotional ties towards Resende.
