Building of modernist hospital architecture authored by the architect Francisco de Oliveira Ferreira. Originally conceived, to be a heliotherapy clinic (sun therapy) by Dr. Ferreira Alves, after visiting other clinics in Switzerland. In 1930 was inaugurated the Heliantia Clinic, building projected according to sunlight, due to his beneficial effect, thence the east and west facades presenting themselves in shape of staggered balconies. The facades of the building are marked by opening rhythms and fractions through columns. As appearance of highlight, will be the use of sunflower as a decorative element. This plant of the genre Helianthus, it was in the origin of the clinic’s name.
This building was classified as Monument of Public interest (MIP) in 2013.
Nowadays, the building hosts the Superior Institute of Financial and Fiscal Studies (ISEF) and Heliântia private school (private education, first and second basic cycles).
