The leisure and well-being were in the origin of Granja in the middle XVIII centuries. It all started when monks of the Grijó monastery, realizing the mild climate and good maritime airs, chose this place to pass the summer at rest.
A century after, thanks to the vision of Fructuoso da Silva Ayres, Granja became a holidays destination to the national and Spanish elite, from the nobility, the clergy, the high finance, literature people, arts and music. The beach of Granja became in this way one of the most distinct beach resorts Portugal has met.
In this area, we enhance the small palaces and chalets as well as its beautiful train station.
Despite the fact that Granja does not possess the splendour of other times it is still today, one of the most beautiful places of the county where the past is present in the most recondite places.
