The building that houses the Museum was the João Marques de Almeida Carvalho residence, who bequeathed it by will to the Fundação Museológica Oliveirense (Museologic Foundation), the entity that manages the Casa Museu (Museum House). The Casa Museu also inherited all the patrimony of Constantino José de Carvalho, which helped to the enrichment of the institution. Currently, the objects are exhibited in the museum spaces, such as the garden, the kitchen, the covered public place and four rooms on the 1st floor, the ground floor and the balcony. In permanent exhibition, the museum presents archaeological findings, stone monuments, agricultural implements, traditional costumes, glass objects, black pottery, old radios, old photographs and photographic material, and the re-creation of an ancient typical kitchen, in the permanent exhibitions. The Reading Room Ferreira de Castro keeps the manuscript of his first major work - "Os Emigrantes" (The Emigrants).
It also has several rooms for temporary exhibitions.
