"Once upon a time ... Old-fashioned market" is a cultural project of Oliveira de Azeméis which began in 1997 by the “Grupo Recreativo, Associativo e Cultural of Cidacos”, collectivity founded in 1972 in that city. Since the first edition, counts on the partnership of the municipality of Oliveira de Azeméis. The event intends to relive the market like it was, 100 years ago, in the "Praça dos Vales”: People from all the parishes of the municipality, and bordering areas, moved to the centre of the" Village "of Oliveira de Azeméis to sell land products, especially farm products
This way, besides providing a moment of leisure, the "Old-fashioned Market" is already a reference regarding to the involvement of the uses and customs of the end of the XIX century, beginning of the XX century, recreated today as a true sharing of knowledge of the 19 parishes of the municipality.
Old-fashioned tents, craftsmen, bakers of Ul, farm products, utensils and ancient costumes are some of the elements of the market scene. The Bread Fair, an exhibition of handicrafts and the traditional dances and singings, which take place every year, continuously, since 1997.
"Once upon a time ... Old-fashioned Market" has the singularity of being organized by a non-profit collectivity which, in turn, invites others to participate too, in a joyful sharing of knowledge and intergenerational experiences. This is how in 2011 participate actively about five dozens of Recreational Associations, Cultural and Humanitarian and more than 1000 extras.
