A visit to Ponte de Lima, the oldest town in Portugal, is not complete without a visit to the Terceiros Museum. This religious art museum houses not one, but two religious monuments: the former convent of Santo António dos Capuchos and the building of the venerable Ordem Terceira de São Francisco da Penitência. Although it underwent modifications between the 17th and 19th centuries, the convent Church still has some traces of the initial period. Here, you can appreciate four chapels and a beautiful sacristy. The cloister, recalling the monastic life of olden days, paves the way to the Church of the Ordem Terceira. Built between 1745 and 1747, it is filled with altarpieces, pulpits and pelmets in rococo design. The canvas of the Imaculada Conceição, from the beginning of the 19th century, also deserves your admiration, as well as the sacristy with the colourful ceiling. Finally, on the top floor, there is an area reserved for exhibitions, where you can see some parts of the everyday lives of the Franciscans and an interesting exhibition of paintings and jewellery.
