Homage to the knight Gonçalo Mendes da Maia, one of the glorious soldiers who fought beside D. Afonso Henriques for the independence and enlargement of Portugal. Hero of the Foundation of Portugal, he was appointed by the 1st King of Portugal as his "Adeantado".
