Mira Paiva (geosite 38)

Arouca
Description
This geosite includes the panoramic point of Mira Paiva and the evolving area until the left bank of the Paiva. From this amazing place, it is possible to observe the Paiva village, the schist village of Paradinha, classified as Aldeia de Portugal® (Portugal village), and the recreation and leisure area of this village, as well as its supporting infrastructures. The river embraces this leisure in a convex shape. In fact, the flow of the river is stronger in the concave bank that is more eroded than the convex bank, where the river deposits its dry cargo. For this reason, it is possible to observe in the river’s convex bank, over the Paradinha village, a beach area formed by loose rocks from different origins, but softened by the river, that tell the geological history of the region. It is also possible to observe the mouth of the Paivô river, which drains a significant part of the southwest area of the Arouca Geopark.
