The roots of this project date back to the late nineteenth century, is closely linked to the donation of funds to the municipality by the heirs of Prof. Santos Júnior, of Ambassador Armando Martins Janeira, and Father Joaquim Manuel Rebelo, and the willingness of many people and families deliver books, documents and other objects temporarily staying at the Municipal Library. For its realization, in 2002 the municipality decides to acquire a space adjacent to the facilities of Library and Municipal Archives. Between 2003 and 2008, flow the refurbishment and adaptation of space, with a total investment of 400 000 euros, with 195 billion euros in co-funded by North PO (Operational Programme for the North).
On March 1, 2008 the Memory Center of Torre de Moncorvo is inaugurated. Since this date the Memory Center has enriched their collections with the donation of numerous personal and family funds, institutional, corporate, themed and digital. Here has also conducted various activities within its scope, both in and out of doors: exhibitions of various themes, collections, collaboration in various publications, guided tours, collaboration with researchers and national and international institutions, constitution and support the various research projects.
