The parish of Celeirós do Douro is located 5 KM from the county seat of Sabrosa, being part of the Douro Demarcated Region.
Celeirós, famous land, all over the country, for its excellent generous wines (Port Wine) and table wines, is one of the most typical villages in the municipality of Sabrosa. Its importance comes already from the XII century, when the first Portuguese King (Afonso Henriques) granted the Charter, on the 4th of December 1160.
The access to this village is done by a municipal branch road that links to the old road EN 323, in Vilarinho de São Romão; going down between vineyards and olive groves, we see that Celeirós is, in a way, hanging over the Valley of the river Pinhão.
The agriculture is the main activity, especially the olive groves and wine-growing.
Celeirós has the fame of being a rich land and with good wines, since a long time ago; in 1758, for example, the white wine was already considered fine of “Feitoria'.
