Description

The “Holy Spirit Brotherhood” (Confraria do Espírito Santo), which was responsible for its erection, settled in the village in 1549, starting the temple construction in 1647 and finishing in 1681. The building was inspired by mannerist tradition, its exterior renovated during the XIX century, using a plain a neoclassic model approach. The interior is characterized by the stone carvings and paintings of the late 17th to the following century; also standing out, the notable examples of sculpted pulpits, attributed to the artificer “Arcuense” Manuel Gomes, and based on original plans of the painter “Alvares Costa”.
