On the 7th of October 1514, King D. Manuel the 1st granted to Soajo a Charter, therefore acknowledging the importance of this mountain´s village related with the border’s areas consolidation strategy and the strong synergetic and productive component of this mountainous territory.
Within the municipal celebrations of Manueline Grounds of Arcos de Valdevez (Soajo and Valdevez), the City Council will carry out a specific schedule for the old county Charter (municipality) of Soajo, to be undertaken during the year 2014, which will meet a high point of achievement on August the 1st, during the Arts Fair and “Soajo”’s crafts with the dramatization of the Charter’s Royal delivery, around the local Pillory of the same century, including the “Homens bons” (good men) of the borough welcoming the public through a summarized charter’s reading, and street entertainment, with dancing and music of the sixteenth century, as well as local cuisine and seasonal.
