The Covelas Bridge is located in the parish of Ferreiros de Tendais, Municipality of Cinfães, more precisely in the place of Covelas, crossing the river Bestança between the parishes of Ferreiros and Tendais.
Typologically it is a modern bridge, baroque-style, in granite. It has a bridge deck in easel shaped, about 27m long, with a perfect round arch. The width of the board is about 4m, having guards on both sides with a maximum height of 50 / 60cm. It has a paved sidewalk composed of well-cut stones.
This bridge has been one of the most important points in crossing the Bestança river for more than two centuries.
Although it has been theorized that this bridge would have a medieval origin, due to its construction in the form of easel, the Parish Memories of 1758 only refers to this crossing point( Bestança river) by a wooden bridge.
At the center of the board is possible to identify a wayside cross based on a title, the inscription refers to the construction of the monument in 1762. It is still possible to identify in the beginning of the bridge deck, on the west bank, another damaged wayside cross, also based on a title (contemporary of the first one). This has, in the support of the stone, a quadrangular stoning, possibly where there was, once, a religious image. There is also to highlight an ashlar, in niche form, belonging to one of the guards, with unknown functions.
The beauty of the surrounding landscape (bridge, sidewalk, river and meadows), is now one of the most popular assets in the Vale do Bestança, and can be seen along the PR1 – Pathway 1), Caminho do Prado, one of the six walking routes network.
