The “Doçaria Central” (Central Sweets Bakery) founded in 1830 by “Francisca Doceira”, great-grandmother of the current owner “D. Alzira Galvão”, has become famous for its handmade confection of regional and convent related sweets, nonetheless keeping the secrets within the family tradition. The “Pão-de-Ló” (Sponge-cake), candies of “Arcos”, assorted sweets and the “Arcos” egg made cigars, baked by the “Doçaria Central” (Central Sweets Bakery), are the living testimony of the “Arcos de Valdevez” gastronomic history, a fact that has been recognized by various official entities and numerous specialized publications.
