Intended to allow the passage of people and animals within the territory of Ancede, the Bridge of Esmoriz is located almost within sight of two of the region's important manorial houses: Esmoriz and Penalva. Joining the banks of the river Ovil, it has a single arch made of well-cut, narrow and long voussoirs supporting a slightly raised platform; this model was common and repeated from the Medieval Period onwards. The Bridge of Esmoriz is an interesting example of vernacular (traditional) engineering.
