The Dam of Venda Nova started functioning in 1951 and is powered by the watercourse of River Rabagão.The Venda Nova is an arch dam gravity, with 97 meters height. Belongs to the main basin of the River Cávado and has its own catchment area of 136.58 km ². Its reservoir has a flood area the NPA (Full Level) of 400 hectares. Water proportions are in: NPA (Full Level) of 700.00 meters, NMC (Full level) of 701.00 meters and NmE (minimum level) of 641.00 meters.
The capacity of the spillway is 1100 m ³/s and the average annual flow is 284 hm3.
