Aqueduct and Bridge of Arcos

Valongo
Description
The Aqueduct and the Bridge of Arcos are part of the irrigated land that captured the water in Ponte Ferreira, being referred as existing in 1631, due to a provision of 30 May of the same year that allowed the irrigation. It was aimed to bring the water from a river bank to the other, to irrigate the fertile surrounding land. The current aqueduct is a XIX century construction. It served as a passage of both water and pedestrians. Not working anymore, it was recently restored for being an identity icon for the countryside people.
