The Vila Nova de Cerveira Youth Hostel results from an architecture project combining a new building with the refurbishment of an old elementary school.
Nesting within the castle’s walls and overlooking the Minho River, Vila Nova de Cerveira, located in the north of Portugal, is a small town, dating from the 14th century, of great historical and cultural relevance.
The Minho River offers some spectacular landscapes, acting also as a natural border between Portugal and Spain.
Well known by its Contemporary Art Biennial, motor of cultural development, Cerveira, which every two years opens its doors to the creative artists of the whole world, has become an open-air art gallery with a number of modern sculptures spread all over town.
In August and very close to Vila Nova de Cerveira takes place the annual Paredes de Coura Summer Festival which attracts large crowds of young people for the very best in international and Portuguese rock music.
Cerveira definitely has more than enough arguments to worth a visit, a town where art modernity and rock festivals cohabit in perfect harmony with the unique landscapes and traditions of the “Verde Minho”.
