Description / Facilities
Between the city of Porto and the Douro Valley, is the Casa da Calçada - member of the Association of Relais & Châteaux hotels - a luxury hotel in Amarante with its wonderful landscape and an idyllic scenery  that inspires the discovery. Declared by the Portuguese Government as a building of an important architectural,  historical and cultural interest,  the Casa da Calçada preserves its original baroque style, keeping the neoclassical elements in a romantic environment  that invites you to travel through  the past, in a family and cosy atmosphere.

The Casa da Calçada - Relais & Châteaux was built during the sixteenth  century, to be one of the main palaces of the Redondo Earl. During the French invasions, the “comandos aliados” (allied troops) (English and Portuguese) settled in this building. At the beginning of the twentieth century, our luxury hotel in Amarante has become an important meeting place for politicians and intellectuals, led by its owner António do Lago Cerqueira, born in the Palace in 1880 and one of the most important politician leaders of the first Republic. The property was completely restored in 2001 as a 5 stars hotel and is already one of the most emblematic and symbolic hotels of the Portuguese hospitality, becoming, in November of 2003, a member of the prestigious chain the Relais & Châteaux.
