Ermelo is a parish of Arcos de Valdevez municipality, located at the slope of Monte  Gião to  the river Lima, bordering the National Park Peneda-Geres. Its location, half way up the hillside, on the right bank of the river Lima, which provides a microclimate favorable to the production of orange. The orange of  Ermelo, introduced by Cistercian monks in the twelfth century, has as main features the thin skin, almost no seeds, abundant juice and the type of production, is close to the organic farming, where the  introduction of chemicals products like  pesticides, insecticides and fertilizers is completely absent.
