The Ways of St. James are one of today’s main religious and cultural itineraries, and for centuries they have been attracting pilgrims from all over the world, who, because of their religious faith or in search of contemplation, head towards the Cathedral of Santiago of Compostela in Spain, where, according to the legend, lies the tomb of the apostle St. James, who converted the Iberian Peninsula. The Portuguese Way of St. James goes through the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira, in a path of about 17km that crosses the parishes of Arrifana, Escapães, S. João de Ver, Fiães, Lourosa, Mozelos and Nogueira da Regedoura. Aware of its importance and appeal, the City Council of Santa Maria da Feira has signaled the itinerary by placing 60 tiles, isolated or on marks, so as to provide safe guidance to the pilgrims who go on foot, horseback or bicycle, allowing them to get to know and enjoy the local history, tourism attractions and hospitality of Santa Maria da Feira.
