As we recover our regional history it is only fair that we place in the first chapter, the Parish of Tourém. Awarded a Charter of Sancho I to keep border surveillance from the castle of Piconha and its connection, in a neutral way, to the heart of Couto Misto formed by the towns of Santiago and Rubiás and Meaus. There are definite news that Sancho Povoador, passed there from 1211.
It is perhaps the most international of the parish area with daily visits of the "gross" and "tourists" in Galicia! These foreigners can enjoy, the House of Bragança with all the comfort of the legacy facilities, reconstructed for tourism accommodation. In this village the ox court was transformed into an Ecomuseum - Bird Faun Interpretive Centre in the region, where is portrayed the issue of smuggling, political exiles, couto and the cross-border relationship as well as the preservation and maintenance of the heritage.
