The Vila Real Museum of Archaeology and Numismatology (MANVR) is a regional museum, since this is the scope of its collection. As a primary objective, the Museum is a starting point for knowledge and interpretation of the region in which it resides, a region with a very rich heritage and with a long tradition in the field of archaeological research. The design of the museum was based on the existence of a wealth of sites, information about them and an impressive collection to protect, develop, contextualise and disseminate, so that people can look on their heritage as an asset and as a factor in the recognition of their own identity. The main aims of the work of the museum were also defined as having a major cultural emphasis (through the promotion of dissemination activities and cultural enjoyment, aimed at all audiences, but especially schools), the cataloguing of the collections entrusted to it and the support of research, facilitating access to its collections for study, provided that their security conditions were assured.
