Riverine formations and adjacent agricultural areas, which remain parallels in almost the entire length of the estuary Minho River, besides constituting a own landscape, works as a continuum naturale, constituting as a whole an important refuge and feeding spot for different species of animals, being recognized as an important space in the conservation of the environment and biodiversity, to be classified as a site of Community Importance (SCI 019) and special Area of Conservation (SAC 001) within the Natura Network 2000.
A succession of mountain formations, with considerable altitude so close to the ocean, involve the broad estuary, and may, from where we are, appreciate the contours of the granitic mass which forms the Serra da Gávea, crowned by the sculpture of the deer of the master José Rodrigues.
The smoothness of the relief, the richness of the soil and the excellent geostrategic position favored over time human occupation of the banks of the Minho river, lying this occupation marked by important buildings such as the Castle of King Dinis dating from the sixteenth century, Fort of Lovelhe, dating from the seventeenth or the International Bridge "Bridge of Friendship" (21st century).
