We found Marco de Canaveses in Northwest of Portugal, within the Douro Litoral, district of Porto. Delimited by two of the most important and imposing portuguese rivers, the Douro and Tâmega, it knows to the north the mysteries of Marão Mountain and shares, with the neighboring county of Amarante, the magnificent Aboboreira Mountain, where are kept the secrets of a prehistoric time. The stunning landscape, that once fascinated Romans, extends to the iconic Bitetos Beach, a must-stop for Douro tourist boats and water sports enthusiasts. 50 km from the city of Porto, it covers an area of approximately 203 km2, divided into 16 parishes and a population of
about 54 000 inhabitants.
In the lands of Carmen Miranda, we find the jewels of a people with more than two thousand years of history that is reviewed and finds meaning in the culture, traditions and flavors that it fights to preserve. Of the enormous cultural heritage, the Church of Santa Maria, designed by the portuguese architect Siza Vieira, stands out the Romanesque Route, anchored in monuments of exceptional histories and values, and the legendary Roman City of Tongobriga. From the authentic gastronomy of the region, it stands out the unmistakable Roasted Lamb with Baked Rice and the famous regional sweets. As a good dish always asks for a good wine, Marco de Canaveses
is still portrayed by the excellence in Vinhos Verdes produced in the local farms. The richness of the region extends, beyond borders, in the art of extracting and working Granite.
