The Sacred Art Museum is installed in the Church of Mercy and contiguous building in Torre de Moncorvo. It is a building of the sixteenth century, have traces of great historical and architectural and artistic value. The façade has a portal with full arch flanked by two medallions representing of St. Peter and St. Paul. At the top, is torn a niche with the image of “Nossa Senhora do Amparo”.
Inside, the church boasts one of the finest of Portuguese Renaissance pulpit, carved in a block of granite, shaped octagonal cup. Highlight the gilded altar, the National baroque style, datable to the end of the XVII century.
The annex building is an architectural complex, designed since the XVI century, to the House of Mercy, taking one of the spaces served at a later date for female chain. This latest architectural complex maintains a hinged relationship with the Church, because there are points of connection (and pass) between them, allowing the preparation of a route visit full and enriching.
The Museum has a welcoming space, for information and sale (postcards, catalogs, books and other items), as well as an area for reservation or deposit.
The museum space is divided into the following thematic rooms:
Church
This space from XVI century, sporting a magnificent altarpiece in gilt. In the triumphal arch, lies a granite pulpit, chalice-shaped, richly decorated.
Living Holy Week
Room dedicated to Passion, presenting a set of sculptures that depict the last events of Jesus' life, as the Lord of Cana Verde, the Lord of the Steps, the Dead Lord and “Nossa Senhora das Dores”.
Tribune
The rostrum is exposed a set of liturgical vestments, notable for very fine fabrics and embroidered richly worked.
Living Holiness
This space features a collection of sculptures of various saints and liturgical implements support.
