The Museum of Decoratives Arts Housed since 1923 in a beautiful baroque building, which in itself is worth a visit, the museum has an exceptional collection of decorative arts collected by the scholar Luis Augusto Oliveira, which includes Indo-Portuguese armoires, as well as furniture from the reigns of D. João V and D. José. The chapel is also of note, with its baroque altar piece, the ceremonial rooms are decorated with tile panels depicting scenes of hunting, sophisticated environments, gardens, games, music and, most famously, the representation of the four continents. Another collection that deserves to be highlighted is the faience, with special attention to the examples of Viana pottery from 1774 to 1855. Visitors can also enjoy the temporary exhibitions highlighting pieces from the Museum’s collections and other art of contemporary periods.
