The Islet of Vez Summer Sessions is a festival on the rise, organized in partnership with the Folia Association and the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez; their dates coincide with the Count’ Feast and this year the event will take place between the 6th and the 10th of August. The “Roda no Ar”, a group of friends of Arcos de Valdevez, kept the dream alive, extending the scope of the municipality popular festivals by holding it every year, on the second weekend of August, and offering new proposals to the younger audience; accordingly, they idealized a parallel event, yet inserting themselves into the main Festivities and Fairs “Feiras Francas”; to this event they gave the name of Islet of Vez Summer Sessions “Ínsua do Vez Summer Sessions”, inspired by the idyllic place where it occurs; the Islet of river Vez, situated in the heart of Arcos de Valdevez, in a place girded by the resplendent waters of river Vez, where the backdrop is the centenary bridge of the Arcuense (inhabitants of Arcos de Valdevez) village. More than being a new music festival in Minho, a region that once was queen and lady of such events before the booming of urban festivals that have made the capital the most important centre of attraction as far as Festival go, o IVSS plans to draw more people to the local festivities, animating the cultural offer of Arcos de Valdevez, already very dynamic, and promoting the best of what the country has to offer.
However, it is important to note that for the public in general, the characteristic that distinguishes the most this event is the double free access to the enclosure as well as a reference schedule. This festival is an experience that promoting dynamic and eclectic acts in the music field, brought to the public through an appropriate and transversal programming. For the seventh edition the organization intends to innovate around a production even more thorough, thus expanding a festival that is already potentially serious nationally.
