The panel entitled A Linha do Douro, by the painter Manuel Casal Aguiar, depicts the passing of people through the Douro on an emotional journey which is now perceived as a historic evocation of everything that has shaped the spirit of local peoples. Its proximity to the railway station stresses the significance of the dichotomy between departing and arriving in a city and a region that has given so much to Portugal. The panel spreads over 2,400 square feet.
