Founded in Lisbon in the late 60s, only in 2005 the São Mamede Gallery opened in Porto, initially in D. Manuel II Street, in front of the Crystal Palace, changing from January 2013 to the Miguel Bombarda Street where is concentrated the vast majority of the city's art galleries and near the Soares dos Reis Museum.
By Galeria São Mamede passed all the leading names of modern painting in Portugal, such as Amadeo de Souza Cardoso, Almada Negreiros, Jorge Barradas, Julio, Carlos Botelho, António Areal, Mario Cesariny, Cruzeiro Seixas da Silva Vieira, Paula Rego, Júlio Resende, Francisco Clock, Manuel Cargaleiro, Carlos Calvet, Charters d'Almeida Lima de Freitas, Nadir Afonso, Jorge Vieira, etc., and it is undeniable its contribution to the training of tens of private collections of modern art.
