The sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Saúde was built at the foot of the hill after 1825 and before 1845.
Major enlargement and renovation works were completed in 1907, including the construction of a new neo-Gothic central tower facade, paid by a “Brazilian travel-to-travel” emigrant from Rio de Janeiro, José Martins da Silva.
The arrangement of the churchyard and the theatrical stairway were funded by the dealer in Manaus, Alberto Ventura.
The church, with a rectangular nave and chancel, generally adopts the neo-Gothic style. The interior decoration has an eclectic style carving (with neo-romanic and neo-gothic decorative motifs on neoclassical structures).
On the cruise arch and ceilings are painted: stars on a light blue background (in the medieval revivalist taste of the late nineteenth and early twentieth); neoclassical plant motifs; angels and Our Lady of Health.
