Giesteira is located in the parish of Vascões, the homeland of Father Lourenço Caldas, also known as the priest or the wise man of Giesteira who became famous in the 17th century for his speaking skills, for the ability to prevent events, to assess the natural elements, and as a man of an unusual imagination. Today, we can still see the spot of gate marking the entrance to the hunting ground of Giesteira, and as we exit towards the Corno do Bico Protected Area we can still see a gate.
