The “Rota dos Bicos” (the Peak’s Route), classified and signalled as a short route, marked in both directions, runs through the old paths, connecting between the west slope of the “Serra do Soajo” (Soajo’s Hill) and two sanctuaries of pilgrimage, “São Bento do Cando” and the “Senhora da Peneda”(Peneda’s Lady). Differentiating in this way a remarkable example of mountainous rural engineering, “Calçada dos Bicos” (Peak’s sidewalks), built back centuries and implemented in the hillside, with its seven stretches, it presents stable and symbolizes a journey of faith to reach the Marian sanctuary.
Walking into a single direction, the “Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Peneda” (Our Lady of Peneda’s Sanctuary), by old faith paths and sidewalks that have always guided the pilgrims and devotees along the “Soajo and Peneda”’s Hill. Still beaten by many devotees and foreigners, allows the walker to feel geographical, social and religious aspects of one of the most typical religious retreats of “Minho – Peneda”’s Pilgrimage, where the religious and the profane come together in harmony.
