The natural trail of Souto Maior "Rota do Volfrâmio” (Route of Tungsten) has about 9 km and it is considered a small route (PR) path.
Circular type, this circuit begins and ends at the Parque de Lazer de N. Sra. de Fátima (Leisure Park of Our Lady of Fátima), following the paved path into the heart of the small village of Souto Maior. Here, are still visible some stone houses in ruins whose construction marked the beginning of the village which would extend over the years until today.
Going down, the view takes us from vineyard to vineyard, from olive grove to olive grove, through a rural path that leads to the front of one of the tungsten mines more “sui generis”of the all region. Still, along the way, the horizon takes us beyond the green or golden slopes. In this area we can find even more 2 mines.
If at first we were imbued in landscape and genuine soil from Douro, thus Souto Maior belong to the demarcated Douro region, the route shows us another facet, making us feel the fresh air of the mountain, with views of mountainous landscape overlooking the Douro.
This route could not have another name: truly there are several mines, about 7, and the spoils are along 9Km. Enjoy nature, enjoy history.
