The Cávado River, in the mouth of the river was no longer navigable. In the late XVIII century Queen D. Maria I, approved the elimination of a meander of the river turning the bend in what is now called locally "the old river." The wall, known as "marachão" or "the marachão do abade" because it was held by the abbot of the village of Fonte Boa, was completed in the year 1802.
It is nice to enjoy the beautiful beach of the river Marachão, where the green vegetation and blue sky mirrored in the calm waters invite Cávado unique moments.
