“Man dreams and the work materializes”. Idealized and built by Amândio José Ribeiro, from whom the clock took its name, it is the most comprehensive clock in the world and a mysterious piece of art, containing the world inside it.
This clock is able to perform 34 functions through more than 16 000 algorithms and letters. It keeps seconds, hours, days, weeks, months and years, seasons and quarters, leap years, moon phases and lunar years, solstices and equinoxes, and a whole lot more.
This clock can work for thousands of years with minimal margin for error. Its construction took more than 28 years. It predicts the future and is so comprehensive that it is programmed to correct the time difference between the Gregorian calendar used in the Western world and solar time. This most comprehensive clock could not be complete without the time setting for the various parts of the world. Its construction took more than 16 000 hours between 1945 until 1973, around the sun, the moon, and the stars.
Note that all the knowledge needed for its construction was acquired through books and direct observation, rudimentary materials, newspaper cutting and magazines, among others.
