Ribeira de Covas Interpretative Trail

Vila Nova de Cerveira
Description
This trail was chosen to the “Family in the Mountain” program once it is an easy trail for all family. It runs through the parish of Covas, county of Vila Nova de Cerveira. The trail extends about 4,5 km and has no difference in level. Before the trail takes us to the river Coura throat, it runs along the bank of this river and leads us by its slopes with typical autochthonous trees proper from the mountain streams. The cultural elements related to industrial hydroelectric archeology (the trail runs by part of a water-course that led the water from the dam to the old station – the second Hidroelectric Station to be built in Portugal -, that is now in ruins) intensifies the importance of this trail, besides the beauty of the landscape. The main fauna is constituted by winter birds and otters. This trail was restored by the municipality of Vila Nova de Cerveira with the conditions and equipment that guarantee the security of the trail, given the attention to the above mentioned components.
