With more than 250 years, Quinta do Bucheiro mantains totally independent, being proud of belonging to the same family. On the way to its third centenary, the farm has the same land and the same tradition: produce wines with superior quality.
It is located in the Valley of Pinhão, in the Alto Douro, in one of the most famous sub-regions of the demarcated Douro region, at an altitude of 220m and with about 40 hectares of vineyard, which is completely mechanized; this particular place is covered by a unique microclimate which contributes decisively to the typicalness and differentiation of Quinta do Bucheiro wines.
It was in this privileged ground that, in 1878, Dr. Joaquim Pereira, in close collaboration with the most notable french researchers of that time, such as, Lichamstein and Suliman Planton, introduced in Douro "American Vines", of which he was pioneer.
The species Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca, for red wines are together with Malvasia Fina, Gouveio and Viozinho for white wines the selected species, among the best of the letter A, combining the excellent conditions to produce a wine with a unique quality.
The wine ageing is still being done in its old warehouses, dividing the practice by tuns, barrels and half barrels of french oak, american and portuguese; for the unaged white wines are used the stainless steel vat.
The bottling process is carried out in the Farm by automatic system and sanitized after approval of the organizations and under the responsibility of the owner, Eng. Oenologist, António Dias Teixeira.
Here we can also find a vast and rich architectural heritage, in fact, defining the region in which the municipality of Sabrosa come up in a privileged location.
