The area of the Protected Regional Coastline of Vila do Conde includes the parishes of Azurara, Árvore, Mindelo, Vila Chã and Labruge, stretching along a coastline with a length of 8.5km, between the mouth of the river Ave on the north, and the river mouth of Rio Onda, on the south, establishing the administrative border with the neighbouring municipality of Matosinhos. It is also crossed by two streams.
This area includes a coastline mainly consisting of beaches, dune ridges, cliffs and wetlands, also presenting an extensive agricultural and forest area, where persist semi and cultural landscapes, local and regional interest, resulting from the interaction between man and nature.
It is characterized by having a diverse fauna and flora, having a unique importance in the conservation of biodiversity. Most of the Protected Regional Coastline of Vila do Conde corresponds to Mindelo Ornithological Reserve.
