The interior Way stretches for 205 Km, in Portuguese territory, crossing the municipalities of Viseu, Castro Daire, Lamego, Peso da Régua, Santa Marta de Penaguião, Vila real, Vila Pouca de Aguiar and Chaves. It crosses the border in Vilarelho da Raia, covering about 180 Km of the Silver Route, on Spanish territory, until reaching Santiago de Compostela.
The Portuguese Path inside of Santiago differentiates itself from other tracks of pilgrimage already marked, in Portugal, by several factors: the accuracy in the recognition and marking criteria of The Way; the heritage, iconic and toponymic richness related to Santiago and The Way; the natural and rural framework; the double sense, allowing the use of The Way for the pilgrimage to Santiago and Fátima.
In this layout, the original path will be crossing with the old railway line, the Corgo Line, which was however reclassified as an ecotrail; thus, it is possible to complement the municipal portion of the Way to Santiago, fully or partially, with the return to the starting point by the ecotrail, making this experience a circular walk.
