A long time ago the Pilgrimage was realized in August; actually, the Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Peneda “Nª Srª da Peneda” occurred from the 1st to the 8th of September. From August 31st till September 8th, after 5 pm, one’s beads is sung through the Chapels Sanctuary’s staircase. September the 6th, is when the people sing and dance to the concertina sounds all night long till next morning. It is considered one of the most popular pilgrimages of Portugal involving Portuguese as well as Galician.
The festivity is settled on a natural and architectural space of universal beauty, with a magnificent large rocky outcrop, a waterfall and a stunning natural landscape surrounding, where the beautiful 18th/19th century temple and its staircase of 20 thematic chapels form a whole unmatched characterization, in a privileged area of the unique Portuguese National Park: P. N. Peneda-Gerês.
